FOUND : Thonet chairs patent in 1906.  
Interesting fact:  These chair types were commonly sold to America because of the bow brace which made it difficult for Americans to use as a footrest.  Also, American customers were drawn to this particular back style as opposed to the rounded No. 18 chair.
